Understanding Mandala and Sacred Geometry in Paintings

 Geometry as we refer to a circle, square, rectangle and a triangle. This is what we have studied since childhood and as we grow we study cylindrical, cubic as well as other three dimensional forms of shapes. During my journey of searching for my identity I loved to paint shapes. Lines, circles, rectangles and squares were an important part of my discovery in art style and these paintings are size 6.5x9.5 Inches from the year 2000. Spirituality and religion are two different things is what I have understood. A religious person may not be truly spiritual and may keep following rituals blindly where as someone who may not be showing signs of following rituals may be a highly spiritual person leading a more fruitful life.

Mandalas take you within. They are deep patterns and overflowing in harmony shapes that mesmerize the mind and soul and in turn heal the soul. Paintings of mandala structures need a lot of patience (I don't have!) and skill. To repeat the same patterns and to paint in the same tone and mode is what I find difficulty in. You will never find tow of my paintings same, each one is unique and I can't copy or repeat any of my original paintings. It is as if a road travelled and past.

 Mandalas come up when a person truly follows the principles of leading a spiritual life. mandala paintings come after meditation and after doing third degree in the healing technique of Reiki and following daily practices this sacred geometry came about in my artworks. Why did Kandinsky give meaning to his squares and circles is another question as my self discovery has led to different meanings to these beautiful shapes. A mandala painting is a device to enable one to learn and concentrate effectively. It is a means to understand geometry and use this for benefit in improving concentration, memory, learning and meditation through the use of appropriate geometric shapes.

A basic mandala is an auspicious symbol for perfection and balance.  The circular center shape displaying any where will make way for balance and harmony. It has been understood that the circle shape having no corners indicates the heaven and the earth and the whole universe. It is connected without any breaks and this indicates the completeness and connectivity of the heaven and earth.  

It also indicates limitless energy and abundance.

The mandala paintings have symbolic shapes and visual geometry helps to connect to the individual soul. Each soul connects with their respective symbol and hence we see many people like circles where as some are more inclined to select square shaped objects or triangle shaped ones.

In ancient art people used to make mandala paintings which were a perfect balance between different patterns and shapes. Each artwork begins with a central core or the circle shape and then proceeds using harmonious elements and different images along side and as the width of the circle grows the painting emerges as a beautiful harmonious artwork. These paintings are very effectively used since ages for healing and awakening the third eye.

How does a  mandala healing painting work?  it works on your subconscious mind or the third eye. It promotes relaxation and visual geometric images involve all your senses. The mind when relaxed focuses on the colours, images and symbols used in these mandalas and therefore promotes learning and increased memory and concentration.
As our two eyes allow vision and the sense of sight so the third eye which is placed on your fore head area is used to see the etheral and astral level.
There are many mantras which use sound to activate the third eye and sacred geometry paintings do the same with using our sense of sight.
Very often spiritual artists use images and different symbols in these mandala paintings. The famous Buddhist artworks have the eight auspicious symbols, especially the wheel of dharma in many paintings. Artists also use the beautiful circle to unfold various mysteries of the other levels. There may also be use of squares, triangles and rectangles along with various symbols  or objects drawn, all in harmony attached to one another.
In Indian mythology mandalas are used and very often have the 'Aum' symbol at its core. The first primal sound or the beginning of sound 'Om'.

The beauty of any mandala painting is that it is always drawn in harmony. Whatever the images used or the symbols used all form a smooth flow and give a feeling of totality and completeness when viewed. It is a very difficult art and need lots of patience and concentration as well as a balanced emotional level in the spiritual artist.

My personal preference has been over the years with sacred geometry and mandalas though a part of my healing spiritual paintings I have never fully painted only mandala paintings. The other favourite shapes of squares and circles were more in the early years and as I have moved from circle to square the  phase of Octad  going on in year 2010. The symbol for perfection in heaven and earth. The OCTAD with its eight sides, a truly beautiful symbol!

It does affect the mind spiritually and artists have been known to lead a solitude life. I want to bring in harmony and balance and never leave any side, the world is not black and white, it has a lot of greys! isn't it!

Some artists draw the patterns and then fill in colours because it requires a lot of skill and patience and neatness in this art. Free souls follow the abstract pathway. 

Mandala paintings can be complete geometric or a smaller part with abstract colors floating surrounding the structure. 

When you are choosing to buy a Mandala painting be careful of these three points-

1) Are you the person who likes spiritual art? do you love patterns? specific colours?

2) Do you love to watch repetitive patterns? because day in and day out these mandala paintings can sometimes bring stress to those who do not connect with them. Like a chakravhew a bizzare circular trap. This is not my opinion, I have had emails and questions asked to art buyers, it has been researched and understood by asking and observing people's reactions over the years with art. 

3) Do you know that the artist is a spiritual person and healing artist? this one is most important because buying machine made artworks printed on paper or canvas will never bring you the energy your soul craves for. History of the artist is most important to experience pure joy from the energy of mandala paintings you are going to buy. 

Mandala painting healing benefits- 

1) Good energy mandala paintings especially reiki Mandala paintings are beneficial in assisting in life journey. to find spiritual soul purpose when you are struggling with career issues or seem to be job hopping too many times. 

2) If you find money luck not coming to you and even if you earn it is not sufficient then the right symbols help to unblock the money blocks.

3) For educational luck and academic improvement. for higher education luck mandala paintings are good if the right symbols are applied in proper structure.

Since we know any art begins from a dot which proceeds to a line and then becomes a master piece, I have always been fascinated with lines. Its a spiritual expression and as the symbolism is that chanting the mantra attracts peace and harmony in life. Tibetan Buddhists believe that chanting the mantra in mind or saying it loud attracts the blessings of Goddess of compassion. Om Mani Padme Hum, Repeating ,chanting the mantra has immense spiritual benefits. An object , vehicle to happiness and spiritual bliss. Clearing past karma, "Thus the six syllables, om mani padme hum, mean that in dependence on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha[...]" A spiritual symbolic modern abstract painting. Repeating with pure compassion brings blessings from the Universe. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra or chanting the mantra, prayer,  Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. Viewing the written form of the mantra is said to have the same effect  placed where people can see them. 

We no longer cling to realities and old thoughts and with this comes self acceptance, as if a hollow channel, just also, what Reiki healing brings on. Not only does it bring pure focussed thoughts we also notice , people also notice in us,  immense changes in our behaviour, the acceptance of the higher force, no longer doing tasks with expectations and welcoming grace with free mind, clarity in thoughts and clarity in speech. Understanding, and changing of attitudes.

The Dhungkar or the White conch symbolizes the awakening of the sentient being from the sleeping state of ignorance and I have used this conch symbol in many of my healing artworks.

The Bhumpa is one of my favorite symbols used in making helping paintings as this symbolizes a vase of inexhaustible treasures. Hanging this healing painting will welcome good prosperity and wealth in ones life and as the name symbolizes the vase of inexhaustible treasures.

The Palbheu or the mystic knot is a famous symbol used by many cultures to symbolize harmony and unending life resources. The good fortune of complimenting every aspect of your life the endless knot is merged and intertwined with each other and is very difficult to paint.

Another symbols from the eight auspicious symbols is Gyaltsen, the Victorious Banner which is seen in many Buddhist paintings and flags. the symbol assures Victory and is used to symbolize victory of bad over evil.

Many evil forces block and obstruct the success and this symbol is used to overcome this negative energy and invite positive luck.

Pema or the beautiful lotus which is seen in many Buddhist paintings and is also seen in many of my healing paintings is a universal symbol for peace and luck. It is the ultimate symbol for enlightenment and achieving the ultimate in spirituality. This is the symbol for non attachment, how this feeling is great when you are not attached to anything and feel freedom to invite grace to offer you, you are a mere spectator , an actor who just has to act and this feeling is of great achievement, the feeling of non attachment, of not being responsible for everything. This is just what we advice in reiki, to let go of all attachments and free yourself of the guilt of not being responsible for everything and anything! There is a super power who is controlling everything and you are not the center of everything. Trust me this feeling is awesome. The image of lotus in most Buddhist  artworks is not painted as our lotus flower because this flower does not grow in Tibet and the people have modified the image according to make it decorative.

This healing painting has another auspicious symbol here which is the Wheel of Dharma. The Choekyi Khoreo or the Wheel of Dharma. Using these symbols in single , in pairs and also all the eight auspicious symbols together I have made healing paintings that when hung on any wall will continue giving healing for your whole life. Healing is not limited to any one person or any one situation and can heal just anyone and everyone.

The Sernya or the two Golden Fishes is also a symbol that is frequently used by healing and feng shui artists. In feng shui fishes swimming gracefully are a sure sign to welcome prosperity and good luck. painting depicting fishes swimming is considered to be very lucky and hanging such paintings in the north will invite career luck and money luck into your life. It indicates the power to swim in this ocean of life without any hindrance or blockages.

These eight auspicious symbols have been judiciously used in this painting and my favorite pots, this is a large pot, of treasures. This healing painting is done on oil sketch paper using oil paints and acrylic . 27x20.5 Inches.  symbols have more power and I have used the colour gold to highlight and make the symbols more powerful. Golden colour immediately transforms the artwork into a unique and rich textured artwork, and the use of golden colour increases the power of the symbols.

Trees are strong symbolism to connect with nature, the element of wood, and a complete connection to mother earth with grounding energy. Comb and Brush painting technique year 2002 till now

After the water colours and the crayons along with pencil sketches cam oil paints which are with me till now and will remain forever. I am born to paint and helping people heal through my art with simple understandable art.

New technique using comb effect and end tip of brush. yes brushes can be used in many other ways in painting and not just the hairy side. So fine art was made using this technique ,again did paintings with energy, passion and lots of love and satisfaction. I used to be so engrossed in my art that would forget the time, the hunger , the sleep as if some one was after me to just keep painting!
